Illegal constructions in Tirana

One day after Top Channel reported a series of illegal constructions in
the capital, citizens reacted by making telephone calls and reporting
other similar constructions.

Top Channel continued this Wednesday to monitor different roads in the Albanian capital, where you can easily spot additional floors built over existing apartment building terraces. Another object is under construction near the Harry Fults high school, which not only is illegal, but it has also occupied the sidewalk, and authorities have taken no actions. Territory administration experts accuse the state structuers and the Tirana Municipality.

“The government’s decision to legalize illegal construction is a capitulation of the state. This has encouraged other people to violate the law on the damage of law biding citizens, by building structures that occupy public spaces”, declared Artan Shkreli, architect.

Shkreli accused the Tirana Municipality inspectors of making a business by turning their backs to these constructions.

“After every construction ther’s a bribe on the verge of electoral campaigns. This is the reason why illegal constructions are entering the heart of our capital, even to the main Skenderbej square. This means that the bribes are very high. The Tirana Municipality is the one that takes more illegal profits on this case”, Shkreli declared.

According to Shkreli, the Law for Legalization of Objects Built after 2006 is an intentional encouragement of illegal businesses which have increased significantly in this pre-election period.
