After a feasibility study, the governments of Albania and Montenegro
have received a free fund of 2.5 million EUR from the EU, to draft a
concrete project for the Adriatic-Ionnian gas pipeline (IAP), which
starts as a branch of the TAP pipeline, from Albania to Croatia.

Dritan Spahiu, Director of Fuels at the Ministry of Energy, said this study would complete the project to present it to foreign investors for cooperation.

Albania, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro have agreed to build the project and have already issued the respective permits. Now they will have to chose the model of the company that will manage the pipeline.

The pipeline would reduce the costs for building an internal gas network in Albania, because it would create a transmission infrastructure of TAP, from north to south.

The Ionnian-Adriatic pipeline is 516 kilometers long and has a construction cost of 630 milion EUR, with an annual capacity of 5 billion cubic meters.
