Hygiene in pools

With increased temperatures, when unable to go at the beach, many
citizens prefer to go to the many pools of Tirana. Although the price
for using their services starts with at least 8 dollars per person, the
pool administrators often neglect with the hygiene and maintenance,
turning them into a source of infection for the citizens.

The Public Health Institution has monitored 35 pools in Tirana.

“Seven pools did not have the necessary amount of chloride and we found pollution of several bacteria”, declared Adrian Hoxha, director of the Public Health Institution.

Few of the owners respect the hygienic conditions and the limit number of visitors.

“There are several patients who come with damaged skin, and the only untouched part of the skin is the one damaged by the swimming costumes. On the other hand, there are high risks for the years and the eyes. If the water level is under the filters level, this shows that the water is not being replaced. This is one test that every one can make. Another test is that if you walk on the edge of the pool, and normal footwear start slipping, this means that there are algae”,  declared dermatologist Erjona Shehu.

According to dermatologists, skin problems are also caused by high doses of chloride or the failure to regulate the water Ph. They suggest that citizens should help for the hygiene too.

“Before entering the pool everyone must clean their bodies with water, even mothers who swim with their small children. Also they must teach their children to not urinate inside the pools, because that could spread many bacteria from our organism”, Shehu declared.

Dermatologists say that the usage of sun creams protects their skin not only from the sun, but also from irritations caused by unclean pools.
