Hydropower plant builders protest VAT on machineries and equipment

The Albanian government passed a law that obliges private hydropower
plant builders pay VAT on machineries used for new investments.

The Association of Energy Producers protested the decision, saying it will bring extra costs and negative effects on the entire sector, which, the association states, has generated hundreds of millions of Euros in investments for just a few years.

Bilbil Zeneli, from this association, says the decision will bring additional costs that will make them abandon the sector entirely.

However, the Ministry of Finances says the products included in this law are not proper machineries and equipment, that’s why they should not benefit from the law.

The Ministry says that the government has improved the VAT scheme, reimbursing businesses without delays. They add that the decision doesn’t damage the investors financially.
