Hunger strike, more tents for protesters

The hunger strike of the former public administration employees who were
replaced with the power rotation has entered its second day in Tirana,
while the number of tents has increased. Two tents were built this
Wednesday evening, and another one was set up today, with four new
strikers going in.

The number of protesters is expected to increase, since the strike organizers say that other former employees are invited to join. Some doctors have checked the protesters and say their health conditions are good. They will be held under constant medical control.

The protesters took medicaments inside their tents, which they displayed in front of the cameras. The opposition Parliament Members visited the tend, while the protesters say they are not there for political purposes.

“8200 people have been killed in Albania so far over property issues. When 1000 people were killed in Syria due to the chemical weapons, the entire world answered. No one has answered for these 8200 people. The Constitution foresees the return of properties. If you have given your word, you shold keep it”, declared Mimoza Bocari, one of the protesters.

But the protesters listed other requests: “40 people have been replaced from the institution where I worked, all unjustly. I am responsible for what I am saying, and I will not leave the strike without an answer from the Prime Minister. I want transparency for the fact. If it is proven that I am right, then he was the responsible one. If it turns out that I am lying, then I should be punished”, declared Petrit Fejzollari.

The protesters clashed with the police one day ago, which tried to stop the placement of the tents. The Ombudsman appeared at the tents, but he left after the request of the protesters.

The protesters didn’t accept to file a complaint at the Ombudsman after the yesterday’s incident.
