Hungary is one of the EU member countries that is advocating for
Albania’s EU accession negotiations. The Foreign Minister of Hungary was
very direct with his opinion:
“The European Council must support the recommendation of the European Commission this December. Albania must start the accession talks as soon as possible, because the country is already prepared for these negotiations. The performance of Albania speaks for itself. We don’t see any reason to postpone the accession talks”, said Peter Szijjarto, Foreign Minister of Hungary.
The Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, doesn’t see the Vetting law as an obstacle. Since the justice reform cannot end within one day.
“Even if the Constitutional Court had voted in its favor, experts have calculated that its implementation will last three years”, he declared.
The Foreign Minister of Hungary received full support from the opposition during his visit in Tirana.
“We asked the Minister to make everything possible to support the integration and start the negotiations”, said the DP leader, Lulzim Basha.
“We are happy that this think unites the country, the government and opposition”, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said.
Hungary will bring this February a diplomat who will assist Albanian authorities with preparing the negotiations, a very difficult process from the technical point of view.
Hungary is currently lobbying to convince several member countries which have expressed fatigue with the accession, to support Albania this December.
