Hungarian “last wish” for Tirana

EU ambassador in Tirana, Ettore Sequi, the Hungarian ambassador, Sandro
Molnari, and the ambassador of Spain, Rafael Perez, made a summary of
the achievements of the Hungarian EU Presidency. June 30th was
the last day of this Presidency, which will be taken over by Poland for
the next term.

Hungarian Ambassador, Sandro Molnari, said that although it was the last day of the Hungarian Presidency, very important decisions for the entire region are expected to be taken even on this day in Brussels. These decisions regard the end of the negotiations for Croatia’s EU membership.

As for the EU enlargement in Balkan, Serbia has also taken important steps towards the European Integration, while Montenegro, for the ambassador Molnari, is very near the start of membership negotiations. The ambassador Molnari declared that Hungaria supports Albania for receiving the candidate status, but this is not enough.

“Albania’s main goal must be to receive the candidate status. The key for achieving this objective is to fulfill the 12 priorities set by the European Commission. Before the elections, we saw that the government started to create the action plan for the EU Opinion. Since the post-election process is still undergoing, I would like to emphasize that there is no other alternative except for starting the dialogue between government and opposition, in order to take the necessary steps for accelerating Albania’s EU integration”, Molnari declared.

EU ambassador in Tirana, Ettore Sequi, reminded the declaration of EU Foreign Ministers for Albania.

“The Council of Foreign Ministers planned in its last meeting a document with some reccomendations. The fourth point of this document says that EU appeals the Albanian government and opposition to urgently return to the political dialogue, and to overcome the prolonged political stalemate. I hope that Albania will consider the integration process as a national agenda”, Sequi declared.

The Hungarian ambassador spoke about the current harsh political reality, which was created after May 8th local elections, and appealed for legal institutions to be respected.

“I hope that both parties accept the result that will come out of the Electoral College, no matter who will be the winner. Because in a country that is ruled by law and the legal state, all decisions coming from legal institutions must be accepted. As the document of EU Foreign Ministers says, Albania must continue its electoral reforms, because there will be other elections”, added the Hungarian ambassador.
