Hundreds of businesses in Elbasan have shut down after the police
operation to end informality. Owners say they cannot pay and are forced
to close, while others are staying closed until the fiscal case is
installed.
Tax Director of Elbasan said that this district has had the best reaction to this operation. After 3400 inspections, there have been 305 fines, 72 businesses have been seized and there have been 20 propositions for changing the respnsibilities of the tax office, according to Flobenc Dilaveri, Tax Director of Elbasan.
Some merchants have protested, claiming to be treated as ambulatory vendors. Dilavery said that those who don’t want to keep any document, should register themselves as such.
There are 7000 businesses businesses in Elbasan, 30-50% of whom are thought to be informal.
