On the Independence Day, one of the big questions is: How is this day
celebrated by the Albanians? Flags on windows, concerts on streets, and
joy throughout the Albanian lands – but Top Channel went even further
with its cameras: inside the Albanian families.

The Family of Mrs. Bule is one of those that celebrate November 28th same as the New Year. The flag is raised each year on their balcony and they all celebrate.

The tradition is also followed by her nieces and nephews.

“I spoke with daughter in Italy, and asked her if she had raised the Albanian flag in the balcony, so that people can see that she’s from an Albanian family”, she says.

Even in the kitchen they cook something better than usual.

In another family, Mrs. Llambro has cooked a cake for a marked day of the year. Besides the nice meal, they have also gone out to enjoy the atmosphere of this day around. However, if today there are only concerts and similar activities, once we all used to go in parades.

“We used to celebrate it even more in the communist time, because the entire factories or enterprises were led to go together. We were obliged to go and participate, but that time has also been beautiful”, says one woman, reminding the communist time.

When compared with the communist era, people can discuss if the patriotism has faded in the last 20 years. In fact, there were many people who enjoyed this day only as a holiday. But a careful eye can note that the flags in balconies are each year more.
