House fire kills elderly couple from asphyxiation in Gjirokastra village

A serious event was recorded yesterday in Dropull, Gjirokastra, where a fire started by a spark in an apartment took the life of the elderly couple.
The elderly are believed to have tried to get out of the apartment but are thought to have been suffocated by smoke.
The apartment had a quantity of dry cut wood that the couple used for the fireplace, which is suspected to have favored the flames.
Firefighters and police arrived late at the scene after receiving notification from residents, due to the difficult terrain.
Neighbors were unable to help the elderly as the fire was rapid and raging.
The village has currently only about 20 inhabitants, all elderly.
