Hoti government falls, Kosovo awaiting new elections

The incumbent President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani met today with political representatives to discuss the date of new elections.

The reason for the development is the vote of the deputy Etem Arifi on June 3 for the current Hoti Government, although against him there was a final sentence for the criminal offense “financial fraud” which makes it void.

Consequently, the Supreme Court ruled that “the President of the Republic of Kosovo to announce the elections, no later than 40 days from the day of notification.”

Opposition party Lëvizja Vetëvendosje was the one that sent Arif’s vote for the Hoti Government to the Constitutional Court for interpretation of the constitution.

The Hoti government will remain in office until a new executive is elected.

According to Article 82 of the Kosova Constitution, the Assembly is dissolved by 2/3 by the votes of the deputies and then the president of the country through a decree dissolves the Assembly and announces the date of the elections.

The parties of the ruling coalition, the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, the Social Democratic Initiative and the parties of the minority communities have not yet commented on the decision of the Constitutional Court.
