Hospital waste that are produced by private clinics and hospitals have been thrown so far in rivers and urban landfills.
The Ministry of Environment has found nine contracted subjects for processing wastes, seven of which unlicensed, which do not fulfill the necessary criteria. For lower costs, they dump them in suburbs or river bridges.
The Ministry of Environment has revoked licenses, after giving two consequent fines.
“Only two of these nine subjects were licensed by the Ministry of Environment. During the verifications we noticed that even the two licensed ones, have not fulfilled the criteira. Four days ago we received an answer from the National Licensing Center, which has revoked the licenses by order of Minister Lefter Koka. These hospital remains did not process the waste materials, but dumped them at other urban wastes. The seven unlicensed subjects have all been closed”, declared Ergys Agasi, from the Inspectorate at the Ministry of Environment.
Agasi explains that the operation that has started will show what is the real quantity of hospital wastes that is produced by public and private hospitals. Based on the production they will control the quantity that has been sent for processing at the subject that doesn’t fulfill the criteria for realizing this process.
According to Agasi, within 30 days they will have the preliminary results of this operation that started for disciplinating the hospital wastes that are produced in our country, with operators abusing for profits, and the burden paid by the citizens’ health.
