Infections taken from operating rooms make 20% of the total, almost the double of other countries.

Specialists declare that a great concern is the presence of staphylococci in these rooms, as the main cause for the infection of the patients’ wounds, and which has won resistance against antibiotics.

“The average hospital infections go at around 11%. In Albania this is 20-22%. It is very important to establish rules that will help monitoring these infections and decrease them, which require the creation of special units in every regional hospital”, declared Gjergj Koja, Specialist at the Public Health Institution.

“Almost 30% of the patient operation wounds get infected, and 20-30% of them have a antibiotic resistance”, declared Silva Bano, PHI Specialist.

Specialists say that the clinical protocols that will be implemented in all regional hospitals are ready. According to Bino, in 50% of the cases, the usage of antibiotics is wrong.

“On 50% of the cases, the usage of antibiotics is wrong. This happens because there a lack of education on the usage of antibiotics in hospitals. Another reason is the usage of the antibiotics without criteria, as result of using them without a receipt”, Bino declared.

Public Health Specialists appeal doctors and citizens to be careful with the usage of antibiotics, since besides the resistance, the life danger, there’s also the economic cost in play.
