The Minister of Agriculture made a test of the Lushnje vegetables
yesterday, after concerns that farmer had used hormones for a quick
growth. The results show that they have not, and the vegetables are
safe.
Tests show that we cannot expect completely biological products, but the pesticide content is lower than the norm allowed by the European Union.
“The result of the test made by the Minister of Agriculture for the inauguration of a regional system for testing products, shows that they are clean. As regards the samples brought by the National Food Authority, we have received the results for two of them so far, for Durres and Fier. These results show that they are within the allowed level, according to the European Union norms”, declared Ardian Xinxo, vice director.
The products sent by the National Food Authority in the Institution of Food and Veterinary Safety lab from Durres, Lushnje and Fier have been analyzed for 450 types of pesticide remains, with most of them under the norm.
But the Minister of Agriculture declared that the tests might be made in all regional labs. One day ago, the Minister of Agriculture showed a simple analyze that could give results in 24 hours. That would determine if newly collected greenhouse vegetables are polluted or not. The lab finds the result faster by injecting the liquid of vegetables to mice.
If these products had hormones, they would have swollen the organs of mice. The tests are then sent for verification at the Institution of Food and Veterinary Safety lab in Tirana.
