A honorary consulate was opened in Gjakova, which will help deepen the joint projects between Kosovo and Albania.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, was present in the inauguration ceremony accompanied by several personalities from both countries.
“As a politician, I cannot resist to the temptation and I will share the thoughts of Mimoza, (Kusari-Lila, Mayor of Gjakova) who spoke about one single nation and one single people. We will do everything possible to turn this into a meeting point for the Albanians living in both sides of the border, who were condemned by history to not live together. But today we have all the opportunities, thanks to this consulate, to have especially our younger generation discuss about everything they like and their joint interests”, said Bushati, Foreign Minister.
The consulate was opened with the commitment of the Mayor of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, and the Albanian Ambassador in Kosovo, Qemal Minxhozi.
“This is a touching moment, although it is simply a gesture, because this ‘consulate’ has always played its role through centuries”, Minxhozi declared.
The Mayor of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, said that their goal as leaers is to realize similar projects for the Gjakova Highlands that were unjustly divided.
Tahir Emra was appointed as consul of honor, known for encouraging cooperation between Kosovo and Albania. He said that this is a new opportunity to deepen the cooperation in culture, tourism and education.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, sent his best wishes through Facebook
“Today i was in Gjakova in my mind. The opening of this consulate will intensify the economic, cultural and artistic cooperation between Gjakova and northern Albania, and it will deepen the excellent relations”, Hashim Thaci declared while traveling to Paris.
