Holidays, food market prices hike

28/12/2011 00:00

Same as in every other past holiday, the prices of the food products
have increased again. At the green market at the former Dinamo Plant,
where most of the citizens buy their fruits and vegetables, the prices
have increased with 20 to 30 ALL for every item.

The Tirana Municipality has inspected the markets each day, but the merchants have respected their annual tradition for increasing the prices. Compared to the prices published by the Municipality, the increase is very visible.

Tomatoes cost 90 ALL and not 52, as the Municipality table shows. Apples are 120 ALL, and not 65.

Top Channel discovered that the merchants use several price tags for their goods, one for the clients and one for the Municipality inspectors. The merchants admit that the prices have increased, blaming as every year the wholesale traders.

Although there is no way for them to interfere, the Tirana Municipality undertook the initiative to stop the price increase before the holidays. But their pressure did not give results even this year.

The same thing has happened in other cities of Albania. The disappointed citizens say that they will buy only the most necessary things.
