Hoffman: Dialogue, no scandals

The German diplomat declared that integration is not a beauty pageant, where new educated Ministers present themselves in Western Europe, offering different policies with passion. They should be convincing in the realization of reforms and modernizing Albania in all fronts.

The integration processes of Albania, according to the ambassador, have raised several cases: Will Albania continue with the notorious polarization, or will there be a new political culture, with balance between the political actors who need to cooperate?

“I am not encouraged by the new developments. I would advise that not only the government, but the opposition should also play its role.

Will the new government stop the practices followed in the past, such as treating the public administration as a party property, by employing party militants and without having the necessary qualifications in key positions?

This is one of the questions raised during the discussion with the German Ambassador, which followed by another one, related directly with the justice reforms that have been required by the European Union.

Will it be possible that the justice reform will not be surrounded by a cloud of corruption, which will turn it to a massive debate?

The Ambassador considers these questions and answers that are expected from the Albanian policy as key for the future of Albania, especially for creating a new chapter.

For this chapter to take place, the German ambassador reminded the Albanian politicians that it takes two to tango, the government and the opposition together, working in adequate conditions and no by turning into scandal everything they face.

The Ambassador concluded his speech with this comment: “There is no doubt that there are too many challenges ahead, because the candidate country status is another step in the path, for you and for us in the European Union. I am convinced that this is a worthy effort”.
