Ana Nordstrom, the daughter of the late businessman, Vehbi Velija, has
been delayed in courts for a heritage certification for four long years.
Her lawyers appeal the High Council of Justice and the Ministry of
Justice to respect the fate of this case, which has marked 13 judges
resigning from the case and delaying it even further.
The first session at the Court of Appeal was postponed right after the lawyers filed the request for reopening the investigation, while the court administered the acts sent by the Swedish state, showing that the late Vehbi Velija is the father of Ana.
Lawyer Isuf Shehu declares: “We have presented a series of requests to the High Council of Justice regarding these delays, and this case has not been resolved yet”.
The lawsuit waited one year at the Court of Appeal, until a trial date was set. The delays have put in motion even the Constitutional Court, which considers this situation as a constitutional violation.
“This stalemate might be created due to the fade monitoring that is done to district courts regarding the delayed processes and sanctions that have not been undertaken. The Constitution is clear that the procedural investigations should be respected within the deadline, and delays are a serious violation. 13 judges have resigned from this case, making the process to be delayed even longer. This is an unprecedented case in Albania”, lawyer Isuf Shehu declared.
