Despite the fact that Albania has the lowest revenues in Europe, the gas price is the most expensive in Europe.
The German association for international cooperation (GIZ), one of the most specialized institutions for comparing fuel prices, considers Albania as one of the countries with the highest price in this market.
According to GIZ, oil price in Albania by the end of 2012 was 1.79 USD per liter, leaving behind France, Cyprus, Spain, Croatia, Poland and many other countries.
GIZ says that Albanian citizens pay oil with almost the same price as Austrians or Germans, where living standards are much bigger.
These data are for 2013, but the fuel price has increased even more due to taxes in the past two years.
This makes Albania one of the countries with the highest oil price in the world, and even for energy in general. According to the International Monetary Fund, Albania has the highest energy prices in the region, what makes Albanian families to spend most of their budget for these products.
Besides these high prices, the International Monetary Fund asks about the effects of this in the economic growth, since high energy prices always hamper economic growth.
