A huge tomato production in the Lushnje area has remained without a
market. There are hundreds of tons of tomatoes only in the Kemishtaj
commune, which has not been collected because local and even foreign
merchants don’t buy them.
The main obstacle is the realization of the quantity made for export, which is not being bought even by Kosovo merchants. Kosovo is one of the main markets of the Lushnje farmers, and only the removal of customs barriers could liberate the producing market.
Tomatoes were sold 120 to 150 ALL per kg one year ago. Due to the high production and low demand, the price today is 20 to 50 ALL per kg.
Farmers seek help, because this situation is not allowing them to work with the cultivation of other products. Green houses are currently blocked by the production of tomatoes.
