Hidden tax on fuels

The scandal of the monopoly that one single company will have for the
fuel inspection has taken other proportions, while the Socialist Party
Parliament Member, Erjon Brace, accused the government of establishing a
national tax that was kept hidden from the Parliament.

“The government has established a national tax without asking the Parliament and without informing the Albanian Republic”, Brace declared.

The tax is 7.3 ALL for every liter that is sol in Albania, but this has also expanded with the exported oil.

“It is a scandal to see how a decision has been enlarged beyond any logic, even to the transportation, when there are other countries that have other standards for inspecting fuels”, added the Socialist Party Parliament Member.

In total, the investment is 4.1 million USD. The government has given the 10-year monopoly to a market that generates 20 million USD each year.

Companies are not paying it. It is an illusion the fact that this fee will be paid by companies that trade fuels. In the end this fee will be withdrawn from the price of every liter of oil that the Albanian consumer will pay. For 10 years, 200 million EUR will be taken from the Albanian consumer”, Brace declared.

According to Brace, the cost of the company is minimal and it will not go beyond 1 USD for 1000 liters.

“They will collect 7.3 per liter. Look at the difference. This service does not justify the fee. The company is involved in a fiscal deceit since its first week”, Brace declared.

The government has given the monopoly to an Austrian company, by guaranteeing even the administration. A Council of Ministers decision states that they will not pay taxes such as the excise and VAT without the private company proves that the inspection fee has been paid.
