The Albanian Helsinki Committee reacted this Tuesday over the violent events in Kukes and considered it unacceptable.

“The image shown on TV and social media showed police officers using violence against a protest, and one of them threatened the protesters with a gun”, the Committee says.

The Albanian Helsinki Committee say that the freedom of peaceful and unarmed meetings is a right guaranteed by the Constitution. They underline that the right of the police to stop the meeting can be stopped only through the law.

“We condemn the violent acts and especially the threat with a gun”, the Committee appeals, saying that these cases should be avoided, especially before the elections of June 21st.
