Albania is reported to be in a full flu season as the curve of respiratory infections shows an increase in cases and a wide spread in almost all the cities of the country.
Currently, 17,738 infected cases per week are reported at the Institute of Public Health, an increase from 16,130 cases that were reported the previous week.
Officials say that the figure could be higher since many citizens do not even go to the doctor and are therefore not included in the reported figures.
The situation seems worse than a year ago and more widespread among the age groups.
In the graph shown, the curve in red shows the current situation, while the curve in blue belongs to the previous year, for the same period. The Institute of Public Health reports that there is also an increase in cases of children infected with measles. There are currently 22 children infected in Albania, in comparison with 18 in the same peroid last year, half of them in the capital Tirana.
