The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, declared in a meeting of the European Popular Parties that Kosovo and Serbia need to negotiate on their own about territory exchanges, and that the important thing that the EU wants is stability.
“We must leave Kosovo and Serbia to negotiate on their own. As for territory exchange, the key is stability. EU accession is the compensation for stability”, Hahn said.
He underlined that it is in the EU’s best interest that for Western Balkan countries to have a credible perspective for joining the EU. But the EU citizens should not see it as an economic burden.
