The European Commissioner for Enlargement and Good Neighboring, Johannes
Hahn, is expected to visit Shkoder next year for watching the
Albania-Serbia match.
The Austrian Commissioner expressed this stance during a joint press release that was held after a meeting with the Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, with whom he discussed about the political developments in the country, the Parliamentary boycott and the regional cooperation issues.
“It is key for the reforms to be implemented through a constructive and stable dialogue. I think that we can show that it is possible. We are a display of this constructive and stable political dialogue. It is key for the government and the opposition to take the necessary steps and reestablish political dialogue in the Parliament, and contribute in creating the right conditions, in order to have a proper functionality. I appeal all participants of the political life, not only in Albania but anywhere, to make political debate in Parliament. What I want to see is part of the European culture for making debate in Parliament. We will do everything possible in the next five years to prepare the country for this, but it is more up to the country itself. You are the ones who can decide how quick it will go. Let me tell you that there are no speed limits for this. It is up to you how fast you could go. We remain on your side and available to help for the negotiations. We mentioned the fact that a constructive engagement of Albania in the region is a clear asset and it is important to preserve it. I welcomed the country’s engagement in the Berlin process for the other connections in Balkan. We both valued the political support, but my duty is to deliver on concrete projects that help uniting people in Balkan and contribute with the peace process in the region”, Johannes Hahn declared.
Albania’s Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, declared: “We are determined to continue with political cooperation and inclusiveness. We will work closely with your services in this direction. We have discussed in the past about the conditions that are set, and about the commitment on these conditions; for the predictions of the process; for the credibility of the process, and I am happy to hear that now we will talk about the efficiency of this project. We talk about an economic governing that is a main pillar of the strategy for enlargement, and it will be an encouragement for our economy”.
“Since I am a football fan, I have promised to go and watch the football match between Serbia and Albania next autumn in Shkoder”, Hahn declared.
Next week Hahn will visit Montenegro and Serbia. So far, the agenda of the new Commissioner foresees visits in only two Balkan countries that have already started the membership negotiations with the European Union.
