The signals arriving from Brussels about the Kosovo-Serbia normalization efforts are leaning each day more towards the border correction idea.
After the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, declared that she supported every solution that falls within the international laws, her ally, the Commissioner for EU Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, did not exclude the possibility of having the borders corrected. However, he insists that these resolutions should contribute to the stability and development of the region.
“We are in favor of resolving any bilateral conflict. But any solution should contribute to the stability of the region, rather than being a cost to others”, said Hahn in a declaration for Radio Free Europe.
When asked if the possible border changes could influence Bosnia, Macedonia and other countries in the East, the Commissioner underlined that it is still too early to talk about this matter.
“The parties are still negotiating. There have been some ideas. I think that one legally bound agreement between Serbia and Kosovo should include more elements. I think that both parties are aware about the international concerns and limitations”, Hahn commented, adding that it is probably better that parties reach an agreement within the next year.
