Groceries are increasingly more expensive, heavier burden on the elderly and the poor

According to the Albanian state statistics institute ‘Instat’, inflation in Albania is currently reflected in the increase in food prices.

If a year ago it was caused by the high prices of energy and fuel, now the officials say that it comes as a result of “internal factors”.

“We can’t afford it, with the pensions we receive we can’t afford to buy them. Cheese went for 1,200 lek, meat for 12,00… fish, you cant even talk about”, says a pensioner while buying groceries in the market.

“Even in Vlora they have increased a lot, cow’s and sheep’s cheese has become more expensive. It reached 1000-1200 ALL per kilogram. For the meat… we’re lucky if we find bones, no more meat”, says another woman.

“Oh no, tells my daughter every time she goes shopping. They are so expensive compared to salaries and pensions”, says a gentleman.

While another interviewed citizen says: “I receive a good pension, I was a former soldier, the prices are normal. He who complains, complains in vain, they lie. Only dairy prices have increased”.
