The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, gave new details about the Crete meeting, and for the first time he expressed Athens’ good will to try and find total solutions for suspended issues with Albania.

Kotzias declared that the meeting with the Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, will be held during the first fortnight of November, in Crete.

“We need dialogue. We will dialogue with the Albanian parties so that we can resolve our matters. There’s the desire to resolve all issues as a package. We are going to this meeting to find solutions for as many issues possible. We have a team of very efficient coordinators, who are working for resolving these problems. Certainly, we want to resolve all of our matters with Albania”, Kotzias declared.

The Greek Foreign Minister valued the withdrawal of the Albanian government from the decision of demolishing Himara buildings.

“It was a good decision to not demolish buildings in Himara. It was the right direction from the Albanian part. We greeted the new law for minorities in Albania. One of the five EU conditions for accession is that the aspiring countries must respect the rights of minorities and of individual properties. We don’t want harsh language, that’s why we often don’t respond to harsh rhetoric between us and Albanian officials”, Kotzias added.
