The former Greek Foreign Minister, Dora Bakoyannis, said two days ago that she would summon MFA Kotzias in an urgent interpellation for the agreement with Albania.
Kotzias answered this request through an interview for the Greek television ERT.
Kotzias: This is a time with interesting foreign policy, although we are followed by fake news.
Journalist: What are you referring to with “fake news?
Kotzias: I have read accusations, based on inexistent facts.
Journalist: For example?
Kotzias: That I have given away the Ionnian Sea to Albanians.
Journalist: Did you give it away?
Kotzias: New Democracy is talking about the grey area. They are talking about an agreement that has not been finished and that they haven’t seen. Those who accuse me are not aware of what is happening in this process, and they accuse me about the content of this process. I hope they really decide what they want to accuse me of.
Journalist: You are talking about the agreement for Albania, right… in order to make it clear for everyone?
Kotzias: As you know, we are in the phase when the President should authorize the negotiating team. The institutional processes are still undergoing in Albania, and I am being accused of this agreement which we will negotiate in details after the Albanian president gives the permit. The loss they are talking about is in their imagination and hope to find something to accuse the Foreign Ministry, rather than talking about the reality. This is typical. I think there are people who have no idea how foreign policy is negotiated.
