For the first time, the stock of direct foreign investments went beyond 5
billion ALL, as reported by the Bank of Albania, which clarified that
these investments come mostly from Greece, 25% of the total, Netherlands
with 14% and Canada with 13%.

Foreign capital in the Albanian economy has started increasing especially during the past decade. According to the UN, after 2008 Albania was among the countries with the highest flux of direct foreign investments, taking 1 billion USD a year, in average.

However, the stock remains lower than that of foreign companies. This is also due to the fact that before 2008, foreign investments in Albania were minimal.

Experts say that direct foreign investments are the main mechanism that transfers advanced technology and knowledge into a developing country . It is also one of the biggest employment and economic growth sources.
