Greece will not recognize Kosovo

Greece hasn’t changed opinion for the independence of Kosovo. The Greek
foreign Minister, Stavros Lambrinidhis promised support for Kosovo’s EU
perspective, but he gave no hope for recognizing the Republic of Kosovo.

During the meeting with Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, the Greek Foreign Minister said that the dialogue with Serbia should continue.

“As you know, Europe did not speak unanimously, and on the context, the position of Greece is known and has not changed. We must say that my presence here expresses my commitment, the fact that we will support the people of Kosovo and your efforts for approaching to Europe with a European perspective”, Lambronidhis declared.

On the other hand, the Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci declared that the request for independence recognition will continue. Thaci added that although Greece has not recognized the independence, the relations between the two countries will continue to be friendly.

Greece is present in Kosovo with KFOR, and also opened a liaison office in Prishtina.
