Greece tops foreign investment list, Italy drops fourth

Despite being in a deep crisis for the past eight years, Greece remains the highest foreign investor in the Albanian economy.

Official bank of Albanoa data show that the assets owned by Greek companies mount up to 1.25 billion EUR, or 24 of the total foreign investments.

The Bank of Albania says that the stock owned by foreign companies through the years mounts to 5.2 billion EUR, and Greece has a huge distance from the second country in that list.

According to the Bank, Netherlands comes second, with 753 million EUR, Canada third and Italy, once the biggest investor in Albania, is now on the fourth spot.

Statistics show assets owned by Italian companies now mount up to 555 million EUR, 10% of the total foreign capital.

Telecommunication industry is on top of the foreign capital list, with 1.24 billion EUR of investments. The financial and insurance serctor comes second, with 869 million EUR, and hydropower plants come third with 705 million EUR.

Data show that now that the oil prices have dropped, electricity is the highest sector for foreign investments in Albania. More than 58% of the foreign investments in the second trimester came from electricity energy, mainly the Devoll Cascade.
