Properties of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church in Albania have brought
back tension between the Foreign Ministries of both countries.

The Greek Minister, Nikos Kotzias, was summoned in an interpellation by the MP of New Democracy, Theodoros Karaoglou, in which he underlined that the interest of Greece are the properties owned by the church.

Kotzias said that the Greek Foreign Ministry has monitored the developments for returning the properties that were taken off the church by Hoxha’s regime in Albania.

But the Foreign Ministry of Albania criticizes the stances of Greece, every time they discuss about the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.

“Every time that the Greek government holds a stance for the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, they intervene in the interior affairs of our country”, declared the Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Glevin Dervishi.

Dervishi underlines that the unresolved property matters of the church are being constantly treated and will be reviewed based on the law.

The UHRP and OMONIA have joined the voices for returning the properties of the Greek minority. They said in a press release that the urban requalification if Himara is a process that aims to damage and make disappear the Greek community in Himara and change its demographic composition.
