Greece profited from Albania more than emigrants’ remittances

The Albanian emigration in Greece is a phenomenon that goes in parallel
with the increase of Greek imports from Albania, and the increase of
Greek investments in our country. For this reason, nationalism against
Albanian emigrants is unacceptable, says the Confederation of Albanian Industries .

“The Confederation of Albanian Industries expresses its concern on the recent political decision of Greece for stopping the Albanian migrants from sending money to their homeland. These efforts are in full violation with the main principles of democracy, market globalization and international agreements”.

“At the same time, the truth about financial capital exchanges and personal revenues between both countries are not in Albania’s favor”, declared the administrator of this association, Gjergj Buxhuku.

Several Greek MPs asked the Greek Central Bank to release the data about the quantity of money that the Albanian migrants have transferred from Greece to Albania, through a nationalist wave that seems like a desperate attempt for finding someone between the emigrants to blame for the crisis. These MPs received a formal answer by the Greek Bank, but they didn’t ask how much their country is benefiting from the exports towards Albania, or how much are Greek companies earning thanks to their businesses in our country.

From 2004 to 2010, Albania has imported more than 3 billion EUR of goods from Greece, while the real benefits of Greek companies in Albania is as unknown as the cash that is brought in by Albanian migrants. However, these benefits are considered to be of billions of euros during the last decade.
