The Greek Ambassador to Tirana, Leonidas Rokanas, together with the
European Union Ambassador, Etore Sequi, gave a joint press release for
the Greek presidency of the European Union.

Although Ambassador Rokanas declared that the European Union enlargement is a key priority of the European Union, he didn’t answer why enlargement was not on the priority list of the Greek presidency.

Top Channel asked the Greek ambassador why Greece had not signed the letter that eight countries addressed to Catherine Ashton for encouraging Albania’s candidate status. Rokanas declared that Europe has to speak unanimously, as it happened in the meeting of the Council of Ministers, this December.

As for the visa liberalization for Kosovo, Rokanas declared that Greece will follow the European line about this and other matters, by not becoming an obstacle.

Rokanas did not comment over the recent developments in Albania about the people accused by the Prosecution over corruption, but that were released by courts. He said that it is not up to the European Presidency to criticize in this aspect.

The Head of the European Union Delegation in Albania, Ettore Sequi, expressed his conviction that Greece will play an important role in Albania’s integrating efforts.

“The European Union underlined that the dialogue between the opposition and the majority for the integration reforms will be key to Albania’s European Union path”, Sequi declared.
