Prime Minister Edi Rama called today the “scandalous deformation” the recently spread news on Albania giving away naval miles to Greece.
Rama, among other things, said: “The distortion of the public statement of the Greek Foreign Minister for the ‘expansion from 6 to 12 miles of Greek maritime waters’ is an orchestrated attack against the new agreement on the sea. The truth is simple, the sea border is not like a fence between two houses and when the Greek authorities say we will expand from 6 to 12 miles, this does not mean that Greece will swallow the Albanian territorial waters, but that the neighboring state is simply exercising its right by the Convention on the Law of the Sea, adopted in Montego Bay in 1982. As far as I know the same extension, in the exercise of the same right, Albania has made and deposited in March 1990 at the United Nations, which it has never been challenged by our neighbors and remains in force today.”
