The government has warned of strong measures for those who don’t pay
energy. The Council of Ministers approved the strategy for paying the
obligations of the public sector.
But the document which shows the way that will be followed for paying the debts of state institutions also covers the private subjects.
The government warns that individuals or businesses that owe CEZ will not be allowed to sell their real estates, to register their vehicles or to renew licenses without paying the energy.
These measures are a competence of the task force established for the energy sector, led by the Prime Minister, and that will take legal power in a later time.
The first phase of the strategy enters in effect right away, and treats the unpaid debts of the public institutions in the energy sector.
The document foresees that within March there will be an identification and verification of the bills with special budget institutions and institutions that are subventioned by the state.
These debts will be paid within April through a mechanism that brings 10 billion ALL of compensation, which improves the financial balances of the Albanian Power Corporation and the Energy Distribution Company CEZ.
The document says that the government will reinforce the measures for not allowing the creation of these obligations in the future, by blocking budget funds for institutions that don’t pay energy.
The energy sector has plunged into a massive chain of debts that according to some assessments reaches 1 billion USD.
