“Government sponsors CEZ”

The opposition is against the Energy Regulation Entity decision for
reducing the fee with which Kesh sells electric power to the CEZ
distribution company. According to the Socialist MP, Arben Ahmetaj, this
decision is destroying financially not only KESH, but all Albanians.

“The last decision of the ERE for reviewing the fee that the Albanian Power Corporation has for CEZ, with a reduction from 2.8 to 2.2 ALL per KWh causes a 100 million USD damage in three years. This decision is the continuity of such decisions in both three-year periods, the one that went by and the one that will come, leaving a 200 million USD damage. This happens in a period when the KESH financial situation is very bad, with 300 million USD debts to third parties”,

According to Ahmetaj, the ERE decision in favor of CEZ has no technical arguments, but it is an agreement through which the government sponsors CEZ with the budget’s money.

“What happened with the decision and what is happening now is a direct sponsoring of the state budget to KESh, and in this letter that ERE sends to the Parliamentary Group, it says that the burden, in case of a difficult financial situation, will go to the state and the Albanian citizens. In the last decision ERE clearly states that the realization of investments is in a very low level, with only 20% of the plan. The burden has gone to KESH, the public company and the Albanian citizen”, Ahmetaj declared.

MP Ahmetaj promised that the Socialist Party will review the way how the energy system in Albania is being managed, which not only is in crisis, but has set a very high cost for the citizens.
