Government responsible for CEZ bankruptcy

While CEZ distribution is in a deep crisis and when CEZ and the
government have started a strong legal battle, energy experts say that
the divorce between the parties is now sure.

Speaking on the same line, the former Deputy Minister of Energy, Gjergj Bojaxhi, and energy expert Gjergj Simaku say that the responsibility on this failure belongs not only to CEZ but to the government too.

“A strong Energy Regulation Entity and correct would have found the possibility to give another orientation to privatization. ERE is managing today another problematic that has started 3-4 years ago”, Bojaxhi declared.

“CEZ has not given the minimum performance that a company should, and for this, the only ones to blame are those who signed and monitored the agreement. ERE is led today by militants and they don’t care too much what’s happening”, Simaku declared.

Although there have been different stances as regards the responsibility, Mr.Bojaxhi and Mr.Simaku declared that the bill will be paid by the Albanian tax payers.

“For as long that the agreement provides that this will be resolved by courts, you must stay assured that the company will win it and the consequences will be paid by the Albanians. The biggest burden of CEZ is with its bad management”, Bojaxhi declared.

Despite this, Mr. Bojaxhi thinks that the privatization of the distribution system is the best solution and this process has not been rushed three years ago.

“I wouldn’t say that privatization was rushed. The institutional conditions today, compared to three or four years ago, have not been good”, Bojaxhi declared.
