Another conflict between the government and the presidency is expected
to bring new political debates. The gap between the President and the
Ministry of Defense deepened after the President rejected the candidacy
of Arian Zaimi as Head of Albania’s Representation Office to the NATO.
The President’s answer to the Minister regarding this candidacy is that it is not according to the standards required by the President. The Ministry of Defense is convinced that they have chosen the right candidacy for our military representation.
But how was this conflict created? General Major Arian Zaimi was placed in reserve with a decree of President Bamir Topi in 2011, without any motivation. The General left five years before his legal time at the National Guard was due.
As General Mayor, he must serve for 35 years to the military. The former President let him go in 30 years and four months. The General filed a complaint at the Court, where he won the right for his grade. The bailiff has also issued an order for returning him at his duty as General Mayor and treat him with the same salary.
General Major Zaimi is now a military adviser at the Ministry of Defense. This is the second time that the Presidency clashes with the Ministry of Defense about a NATO military. The request for the removal of Admiral Gerveni caused public debates between both institutions.
Arian Zaimi has served years ago in a NATO military mission. In 2007 he was one of the candidacies for President.
