“Mr.Edi Rama, the leader of the new majority, has undertaken attacks
against the constitutional institutions of our country in the recent
days, and against the normal activity of the Albanian government”.
This is how Prime Minister Berisha replied to the Socialist leader appeal to not take other decisions until the new government will be created in September by the current opposition, which won the June 23rd elections.
The Prime Minister’s Spokesperson, Erla Mehilli, listed all constitutional articles to argue that the government’s mandate is valid until the new Prime Minister has taken his oath, and as such, every decision of the current government is constitutional.
“This government has a full constitutional mandate to exert its executive power to implement the program that has been voted until the mandate expires. All government decisions are and will be in full accordance with the program of the current mandate, according to the Constitution and the law”, she declared.
Berisha considers as anti-constitutional and vindictive the request of Edi Rama, who also warned private subjects that cooperate with the current government. According to Berisha, this request can be found in the Constitution of Bangladesh, not in that of the Albanian Republic.
“Rama’s threats against the institutions are anticonstitutional and proof of his unrestrainable vindictiveness. His claim for a caretaker government is also constitutional. There’s no European country that recognizes caretaker governments after elections”, Mehilli declared.
Berisha’s declaration seems as the warning for an opposition of high intensity, regardless the few Parliamentary seats.
“The Prime Minister asks Mr.Rama to give up on threats and attacks against the constitutional institutions. The Prime Minister also guarantees the citizens that his government will keep fulfilling its obligations normally, and the Constitution and country’s institutions will not be hampered or influenced by unrestrained vindictiveness”, Mehilli added.
