“Government can’t control evasion”

The head of the Supreme State Audit, Robert Ceku, declared that the
government is not taking the massive evasion in the job market under
control.

“The verifications made by this institution show that in a national scale, a great number of businesses declare and pay health and social insurance contributions only for one single employee. Same goes with the small business in a national scale, with the results showing that in average, 1 small business has 1.29 contributors”, Ceku declared.

Albania has 106 active businesses, but SSA says that only 55% of them paid the contributions last year. The others either do not declare all employees, or they declare a zero activity. But Ceku declared that even those who pay, make false declarations.

“18.6% of the contributors declare the minimal wage. This number is high and it is going to 20%”, Ceku declared.

The Minister of Finances, Mr. Bode declared that the low payments are explained with the structure of the Albanian business.

“The entire manufacturing sector pays with the minimal wage, and you know that this industry has a great number of employees. We have accepted this, that all of them will be paid with the minimal reference wage”, Minister Bode added.

The SSA numbers for massive concealment of contributions come a few weeks after the Prime Minister gave public signals for increasing the pension age.
