The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared that very soon they will start an operation against those who steal energy.

Rama said that the State Police will be involved in the operation, such as in the case of illegal constructions.

“The state police will be entirely involved, and this is an operation where everyone who steals energy will face the law, and there will be a harsh punishment as with everyone else”, Rama declared.

The government leader declared that the operation will start with big businesses that steal energy, to which he gave an ultimatum.

“They have five days of time to return to legality. They have only five days before the police forces will go on terrain same as they did with Lazarat, and they will not withdraw from battle until they have arrested and brought to court even the last of energy thieves”, Rama declared.

Albania loses 150 million EUR each year from the theft of electricity. The Prime Minister used some examples to show that a this damage is withholding the country from vital projects.

“80 to 100 kilometers of roads are not paved each year just because that money is stolen by energy thieves. 150 new schools could have been built with this money. Six new modern hospitals could be built with this money”, Rama declared.

The government leader considered those who steal energy as enemies of Albania. He underlined that it is time to end this robbery, which he called a shame for our country. For this he made a strong warning to courts.

“Let’s stop the story that retired citizens should pay for those who steal energy. Let’s stop the history that the future of our children should be withheld from energy thieves. We will fight as never before against every thief, and also against every court or judge that will dare treat them passively and with ridiculous fines, because they, together with these thieves, take away 140 million EUR each year from this people”, Rama declared.
