Godelli resulted positive for doping

While fans are still enthusiastic about the victories in the sport that has made us proud, weightlifting, this has damaged the image of Albania even more.

Daniel Godelli was declared world champion, for the first time in our history, but this is turning into a huge international lie.

Godelli’s recent improvements were stunning for everyone. A sportsman that recovers 20 kilograms within six months in the same category is something that happens rarely. But it is now being confirmed that it is impossible only with sportive work.

All members of the Albanian national team, except for Erkand Qerimaj, have trained in Greece for better conditions and better methods. But the announcements of the World Federation reject any effort, at least based on Test A.

Although the regulation of the Weightlifting Federation foresees that everything is decided after Test B, the Albanian Federation has been silent for several days. This test accuses the entire institution, because the substance “Stanazonol” was the same found in all the three of them. This substance is used in animals and humans for increasing the muscular mass.

“I have just communicated with the World Weightlifting Federation and they informed us officially, but the final decision will be taken after Test B. This is not about names, this is about how anti-doping works in Albania.This is a serious problem, especially for weightlifting. When three sportsmen result with doping within one year, the entire discipline is excluded. The first step will be handing over the medals and then comes the ban from all European and World championships”, declared Stavri Bello, General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee of Albania.

However, everyone is still waiting for an explanations after the results of Test B. This is another serious event in our weightlifting history, but unfortunately, a damage of our image as never before.
