After the accusations launched by the opposition leader over the
settling deal with CEZ, the Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri,
declared in Parliament that finding an understanding for the conflict
was the best option offered by all international advisers.
“Based on every suggestion of the international financial institutions, the World Bank, the IMF and all institutions that supported us in this process, it has been suggested that the only option for recovering this sector was settling for this conflict. And this was because the sector needed investments, which would be impossible without a clear status of the company, due to the legal conflict. And without these investments, our power supply would be in danger”, Minister Gjiknuri declared.
By rejecting the accusations of the opposition, Gjiknuri said that with this agreement Albania avoided a higher cost that was left by the previous government.
“We avoided a financial obligation that was much higher if we kept going in arbitrage courts. Based on the multiple consultations, we would have lost that battle”, Gjiknuri declared.
The Minister of Energy declared that all negotiations with CEZ were transparent and with consultation from the international community, different from what was done by the government.
“We made the negotiations with the presence of the international community, in a well-known office, the Office of the Energy Community, an arm of the European Union for the energy sector reforms throughout Southeastern Europe. Besides this, I have one public question for Mr.Basha, a question that he should pose to his old father, because he must know the answer better. Where did he hold his meetings in Vienna, in March and April, when they tried these negotiations? Who was the witness there? All we know is that they entered the room of a private hotel, without any presence from the international community. There is no evidence about what they discussed there”, declared the Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri.
