Gjiknuri: Prison for who steals electricity

The Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, warned for harsher measures for those who steal electricity, even prison.

Gjiknuri declared in a meeting with the Energy Distribution Operator in Kukes that the government will start a new plan of measures on terrain with the police, to end the energy theft.

“Time has come to arrest people for stealing energy. Businesses that make profits and don’t pay are committing a penal crime, which is very clear”, Gjiknuri declared.

The Minister warned punishing measures for the Energy Distribution employees who cooperate with the theft.

Electricity abuses cause a loss of 20% of the energy. The other half is technical loss, due to the old network. Minister Gjiknuri declared that after resolving the conflict with CEZ, they will start a 160 million USD plan.

The General Director of the Energy Distribution said that employees must work harder and not tolerate cases when consumers steal, damage or oppose the groups on terrain.
