Gjiknuri: Pressure for the energy price

“The Albanian people know the favors made to the Czech company by lowering the energy price for supplying the Albanian Energy Corporation, or by other actions that damaged the electricity, to the point that the privatization cost of four hydropower plants have not been covered even today. One of the reasons why the international community wants to increase the price, is that the public assets were sold and we are obliged to buy energy with 30 million more”, Gjiknuri declared.

At the Commission of Economy, Chairman Erjon Brace asked the government to bring to law those who are responsible for the ruining of the distribution company, which, after being privatized by the previous government ended up in bankruptcy.

“I am asking a resolution. It will be in the relation of this Commission and in the Parliament. Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his circle should be held responsible for the degradation of the Albanian energy network. Mr.Minister, we need to understand that we are here to defend every cent”, Brace declared.

The new government brought CEZ back to government ownership, against a payment of 95 million EUR, but the Head of the Commission of Economy declared that this is not the only corruptive damage that was left to the Albanian people by the previous government, and for which they are demanding justice.

“This is too much. 85 million EUR for Albpetrol, 95 million EUR for this agreement, 57 million EUR for the frauds with VAT, and other 5 million EUR. There could be even more at the Bank of Albania. I know we have a problem with the judiciary, but we need to bring this wall down, because if these people do not get punished, it would mean that we are not defending the public interest”, Brace underlined.

The energy sector has been involved in a series of debts with the public companies. The Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, declared that because of this, the remaining debt is bigger than the requested sum of 726 million USD, because it doesn’t cover even the obligations of the Albanian Energy Corporation to the private hydropower plants.
