Gjiknuri in Dubrovnik: Southern gas corridor, a strategic importance for Europe

A cooperation memorandum was signed today in Croatia for building the
gas infrastructure. The Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, declared
that besides TAP, another important project is the construction of the
Ionnian Adriatic pipeline.

Gjiknuri valued the importance of the gas connection with Central and Southeastern Europe, and its direct and its direct influence in the security and new energy resources. “TAP should be considered as one of the key priorities of the gas infrastructure in Europe” he said.

Representatives of BEI and EBRD presented their stances. These important institutions presented their evaluations for the main issues, such as the maturity analyze and the financial effecits of the connection projects included in the Action Plan.

The Cooperation Memorandum signed in Dubrovnik paves the path for a closer integration of the EU market with the Energy Community countries. The reinformcement of the regulator and the legal base of the market will help improving the investment climate in signing countries.

The work of the European Commission for the gas connection in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe will not focus only in the construction of new pipelines, but also in finding ways to exploit the existing infrastructure maximally.

In this meeting were present the Deputy President of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic; the European Commissioner for Energy, Miguel Arias Canete, and the Ministers of Energy of Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine. Present in this meeting were also high representatives of the Ministries of Energy from Kosovo and Montenegro, the Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Janez Kopac, and representatives of many important international and regional companies of gas and energy.
