The Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri, was part of the
conference “Safety and Infrastructure in Southeastern Europe”, organized
in Sofia.

As leader of this round of the Presidency of the Energy Community, Minister Gjiknuri mentioned the need to diversify the energy sources as the best way to guarantee energy safety. He said that all countries of southeastern Europe are focusing on reinforcing their energy exchanges and connections.

The Minister said that Albania has a functional connection with Montenegro and Greece. Next year they will finalize the line with Kosovo. He said that our country has guaranteed financial support for the construction of the line with Macedonia, which increases the chances for exchanges even with Bulgaria.  Gjiknuri says that the creation of these conditions is seen with interest.

The Minister mentioned the TAP project and the important role it gives to Albania in the energy sector. The Gas Master Plan for Albania will be complete by 2016, according to Gjiknuri. Part of the gas will be used for producing energy, combined with the huge water reserves of Albania.

Gjiknuri met with the Vice President of the European Commission, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister and Minister of Energy.
