The German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, started
his declaration by saying that the relations between the two countries
have never been as intensive as in the past months.
“We want to express our respect for the work of the current Albanian government for their country, a work that requires investment, hard work and as we know, from our experience in Germany, a reforming work requires courage. We greet the fact that your country and this government constantly wants a more clear approach to Europe”, declared Frank Walter Steinmeier.
The German Foreign Minister confirmed the vote of his country in favor of Albania’s candidate status.
“You know that I cannot say this decision before that meeting. It will be taken this Monday through the Foreign Ministers of the European Union, but let me assure you that we will give our support. It should be an unanimous decision at the European Council by the end of the month. This would be an important step for Albania and Europe in general, and certainly it will be an incentive to continue your work”, declared Frank Walter Steinmeier.
The Albanian Prime Minister was very direct in his message to the European countries, saying that Albania is not begging or asking to be accepted in the European Union before deserving it.
“We hope that the decision will be positive and based on the report of the European Commission, and on the clear results of our government for the priorities decided by the European Union, and not based on considerations that are related to the interior politics of the member countries. We value very highly the position of Germany to support Albania in this context”, Rama declared.

German journalists asked the Albanian Prime Minister about the police operation in Lazarat.
“Our battle against the drug traffic and against the drug mafia didn’t start this Monday, but from the moment we sit in this government with a very clear mandate, which is to end the withholding of our dream to become EU members by drug traffickers and corrupted politicians. This is a peaking moment of this battle, which has marked constant progress and results”, Rama declared.
We will stop this action only when that area will be deleated from the European and World map of drug cultivation.
